Am 25 now.  Goals for the next year:

  • Buy a house!
  • Start doing yoga again
  • Be more patient.
  • Exercise regularly.  Run inside now that it’s too cold to bike outside.
  • Finish grad school (I graduate in the spring!!! finally! :D
  • Figure out if I’m doing what I want to career-wise
  • Figure out what to do with my spare computers.
  • Avoid buying lots of clothes as my closet is running out of space (I imagine once I have a mortgage this problem will be taken care of)
  • Eat 5+ Fruits/vegetables per day (I think I may already do this, I need to pay more attention)
  • Stop buying 4 inch heels and start buying comfortable sensible shoes instead

And I’m done.

Oh yea — I did actually make a victory cake! (it was an apple-raspberry crumble).  Here is the last piece - it’s not photogenic but it was yummy:

Victory crumble! \o/

and dinner -daily vegetables covered for today!  lots of orange.

(lettuce grows in cold weather)

Kidney beans, carrots, onion, tomato, coconut milk, cilantro, cashew

Sweet Potato fries w/ Sesame

Victory Loaf!!!!! \o/

Victory loaf! \o/

lol, the bread was done at the same time the results were announced.  It’s egg bread… I found the recipe in my bread machine booklet, but it seems to be similar to a challah.  I’ll have to make a victory cake later… but what kind?  Possibly a bundt cake because it’s shaped like an O, but idk.. feel free to suggest!

If you’re American and of age, I hope you exercised your right to vote today! Otherwise, have fun with the decisions everyone else made for you.

I had a midterm exam today (it was multiple choice) and the professor screwed up and forgot to put the right answers on about half questions…….!!!!!  I was very very confused and horrified because I couldn’t get the answers listed.  But it turns out I was right (this is why it pays to ask questions). :P

I also went looking at houses this weekend!  to buy! :D   which was kind of depressing as houses are quite expensive and also lol impending bills.  :/ Hopefully the housing market keeps tanking.

Midwesterners, are these allegations true?  If so I’m very disappointed in you.

Sasha: the only midwestern thing i’ve heard of is some kind of fair-type game called “cornhole”
Sasha: and that name really is really :((
Sasha’s friend: OMG IT’S THE STUPIDEST THING EVER
Sasha’s friend: IT’S BEANBAG TOSS
Sasha’s friend: AND THEY ALL PLAY OUTSIDE WHEN DRUNK INSTEAD OF PLAYING BEER PONG
Sasha: DDDDDD:
Sasha’s friend: INORITE?
Sasha: DDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDD:

I bought lots of new shit on the internet and baked bread! Unfortunately, I can’t be arsed to post any pictures.  I am stressed out over the amount of schoolwork I need to do.  I have two exams and I have to write a paper and catch up on a ton of crap to do.

So instead of doing it, I’m sitting here drinking beer and eating french fries.  WIN! (they’re frozen french fries though, and thus not that great.  god, why am i so anal about good tasting food?)

I figured out how to tailor my clothes!  I bought a shirt really cheap on clearance, but the fit was off and I’ve been wanting to alter it for awhile. I kind of figured it out I went along and people who actually know how to sew are probably cringing at this, but this is how I did it:

First, I took in the sides an in or so so it curved to the shape of my body… but it wasn’t quite right, so I decided I needed to add darts in the back. So I drew them on with fabric pencils (I figured out how to do the lines by looking at one of my shirts) -

I used a ruler. lol nerd. and I actually ended up redoing these to make the top of the diamond come almost all the way up to the back yoke.

After sewing it, this is what it looks like (pre-ironing):

it fits! \o/

It fits!  It’s not super tightly-fitted, but if i took it in any more i wouldn’t be able to get it on without adding a zipper on the side.

Sorry, no before picture.  Just imagine a tent.

In chicken news,

chickens like leaves :D

chickens love playing in leaves :D

  1. Zara has amazing coats, if you have short (or I guess regular ) length arms go buy one so I can wear it vicariously through you.  I wish I had shorter arms.
  2. I’m back in Pennsylvania!
  3. Leanne won Project Runway!!  :D
  4. yay!

  5. I bought a fucking sewing machine (not related to Project Runway) so I can do things like re-hem pants I had to let down.  I also have big plans to make a skirt, if I can find a pattern that’s not hideous.

Never trust a woman who eats butter like it’s a popsicle

I have one tip for everyone: never make a recipe by Paula Deen.  I wanted to make peach cobbler a few weeks ago and found one of her recipes online.  It did not taste any better than it looks.  :X Exhibit A:

bummer
bummer

I’ve made one or two other recipes by her and they were all equally not good.  Avoid! Avoid like the plague!

It doesn't look like that much in the jars.

I successfully have completed drying all my herbs this past weekend and they’re all successfully stored .  There’s some mint and lemon balm stil left out in my garden that I may need to harvest before it freezes (which should be soon).  Maybe I can dry it and make some sort of tea?

TY for all the fashion tips!  I’ve worn my oxfords so far with black jeans, a pink button down and a long black cardigan and today with dark skinny jeans, a blue button down, and a black and navy stripe cardigan.  I never remember to take pictures.  I almost never wear button downs to work, but they were in my closet and actually ironed for a change…

I usually set my alarm for 7:30AM, wake up sometimes around 8AM, and finally leave around 8:30AM (if I’m lucky).  I try to avoid ironing wherever possible for maximum efficiency. 8)

and I think I’m going to DC/MD yet again sometime next week for work - probably for a few days but I haven’t quite decided because I’m transitioning at work and I have other things to do still. But I still want to go and move on to the new things!  :P  and get rid of some of the stressful old ones. :/

So I bought new shoes yesterday, but I’m not really sure what to wear them with.

It's actually really hard to take a picture of your shoes while wearing them
It's actually really hard to take a picture of your shoes while wearing them

Plus I am gigantically tall in them.  If I wear heels I feel like people are always looking at me (1. because I’m a girl and there are mostly men in my office and 2. because I’m taller than them)

So I made a polyvore set, but i feel like it’s kind of faily.

How to wear oxfords to work?

oh well. look at this tart I made weeks ago, instead!  It’s a rustic tart, not my usual fluted pan thing, but still delicious.  I live next to a peach orchard and I love peach season.

om nom nom

it was delicious.

PS - for some unknown reason, Wordpress seems to be holding a lot of comments for moderation lately.  Must check to see if I have something weird set, this is a new install.

The Autumn Wind Came Blowing in

It’s so nice to be back!  School has started for the semester and I have two classes - which means lots of time will be spent procrastinating in the near future. :)  One of my classes is a law-ish class taught by an adjunct professor who is a lawyer.  Though he is very knowledgeable, he is not the greatest teacher and it’s hard to sit still and focus.

I’m also no longer doing web development at work, which is nice because it makes what I do at work more seperate from the things I do at home for fun.  Getting paid for your hobby sounds nice at first, but you can get burnt out thinking about one thing all the time.

The weather has sucked for the last several days - nonstop rain.  I feel like I’m living in a swamp, it’s quite disgusting walking outside.  My chickens love it though because they love to eat worms.

My vegetables are rotting in the garden because I cannot be bothered to wade through the muck to collect more.  Luckily I harvested most of my herbs before the rain started - I’m attempting to dry them.  I cut down all my chives (I have two two-year plants, so that’s a lot of chives) and washed, snipped, and froze all of them during an ANTM/Project Runway marathon. :~

First time drying herbs! Lemon thyme. I think they look nice on the chandelier :P

I ran out of places to hang herbs, so I had to bust out the laundry drying rack for the summer savory and oregano.

om nom nom Scandanavian Sour Cream Apple Pie. Not that pretty, but tastes A+! It looks a little lumpy because I wanted to test out my new dough stamps, so I made the crust pretty and then realized the topping would hide it anways so :/

I made the pie from this recipe on FX Cuisine.com.  I think Louise linked to this site awhile ago but all the recipes seem interesting and delicious.

(note - I moved my hosting and when i migrated my site I somehow lost my blogroll and some other things I had saved.  I’ll fix my sidebar soon :))

I’m crazy busy and I know I’m not going to have time to blog because I haven’t the past few weeks - so rather than just being sporadic and annoying I’ll be back in about a month

Sorry, I’m dull and absentee

I’m home! :)  I thought I would have better computer/internet access while I was traveling, but I ended up not being able to blog/read blogs at all except by RSS.  I feel like I haven’t been able to blog in forever!!!

I was taking a class in Washington, DC all last week.  My actual grad school classes start in September.  I will be taking 2 classes - one being Management of Technical Projects, the other Business Implications for Emerging Tech (basically, it seems to relate a lot to Intellectual Property law.  think:  RIAA suing people for downloading mp3s).  This actually scares me because looking at the schedule, it takes place for 9 Saturdays in a row 8AM - 5:30PM.  hoping that’s a typo… but at least it sounds interesting?

I brought my bike to DC last week, but the first day I attempted to bike after work I discovered the tire had gone completely flat.  So, after buying things to fix it, I drove the to the trailhead the next day and started fixing it in the parking lot. Some guy came up and fixed it for me (evil plan:  accomplished ) so I got to bike one day, the next two days it poured and ruined my biking opportunities.  But at least I have a new tube :)
And then on Friday, I drove to my aunt’s house way north of baltimore (in farm country) and stayed overnight because my cousin’s bridal shower was the next day.  Really, the shower not that grate - i felt as if i were in some weird time warp.  But they are happy so that is good :)
And god, it’s already midnight.  :/ Where does the time go?  Will try to comment and do other things tomorrow!
